LG has revealed one of the first modular smartphone – G5 at MWC 2016 (Mobile World Congress). The smartphone posses a modular design which was predicted couple of week ago before it’s release.
The LG G5 features a sleek metallic body and has a great glass covered up front, LG has done a great job considering it’s design as the smartphone doesn’t have single antenna spoils. We can notice that the G5 has a single sleek line that separate the bottom from the smartphone, well that’s one of the main thing that this smartphone has to offer to it’s users. The bottom consists modular components which can be removed to access the battery,card slots, 360 degree camera as well as other several add-on modules.
Let’s focus on it’s add-on ; the first one is a camera grip, LG Cam Plus. It adds a 1,100mAh battery as well as controls like – hardware shutter key, a video button, zoom dial. The second one is a Bang & Olufsen DAC for better audio quality. As claimed, LG will open the standard for third-party manufacturers to create even more add-ons in coming days. The smartphone also support a VR headset which is minimal in design as well as a Rolling Bot which is it’s own version of Star Wars BB8 Bot.
Let’s come to the display of LG G5, the smartphone features a 5.3-inch LCD with an always on function. The interesting features of G5’s display is that it is integrated with a dedicated memory and a power-sipping secondary chip which lets the main chip to sleep even though the screen remains on for all day. As claimed, the chips consumes only 0.8% of battery per hour.
Coming to the camera, the G5 has borrowed one of the similar features from it’s brother – V10. The G5 features a dual selfie camera like V10 but the G5 has it in the back. One camera has 75° Field of View (FoV) and 16MP sensor whereas the second camera has a wider 135° and 8MP sensor. With LG’s software the photos taken from it’s camera can be joined or merged into one pic with various effects and real time preview.
Coming to the inside, the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest – Snapdragon 820 chipset coupled up with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be extended via microSD card. The smartphone also features a fingerprint scanner below the dual camera. The whole smartphone is powered by a 2,800mAh battery and supports quick charge 3.0. As claimed, the LG G5 will be launched on April.
