Back in June, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) gave us some hint that the Bluetooth 5 was work in progress. However, this time the company has officially revealed its specification and features which will be utilized by most of the device around the world.
The Bluetooth 5 will now carry a greater bandwidth, 2x the speed, and a greater capacity for broadcasting the message(nearly 8 times) than its predecessor. The new technology is reportedly 2 times faster than the Bluetooth 4.2 — bearing a transfer speed of 2Mbps — an upgrade from 1Mbps. The bandwidth can also be decreased for low power consumption while maintaining a longer range. With such flexibility, the Bluetooth 5 will allow various developers and manufacturer to set their products and application for specific case or purpose.
Boasting all the upgrades, the Bluetooth 5.0 shall now reduce interference among the crowded 2.4GHz band, thus, significantly improving the connectivity among devices. To be more practical, as claimed, with 4 times the range it possesses, the technology will basically allow users to roam around the house with Bluetooth smartwatch or headphone, without worrying about their smartphone most of the time.
Whilst the Bluetooth 5 is yet to be implemented on devices, the company behind the tech has stated that the supporting device will debut within 2 to 6 months, which basically means that the new technology will be sported on next years flagship phones and Internet-of-Things(IoT) devices.
