Mechtrix 8.0 is an educational fair organized by the Society of Mechanical Engineering Students (SOMES) at Pulchowk Campus, IOE. The event is held alongside other famous fairs like LOCUS and CAN of respective fields. Mechtrix 8.0 is the 8th iteration of the annual festival organized by SOMES that celebrates innovation and creativity in the field of design and engineering. The event promotes innovators and makers to come forward with projects and ideas that promote the sustainable and simple use of design and energy.
Brief Intro to SOMES
SOMES is an independent student body that comprises of Mechanical Engineering students throughout the country. It is responsible for promoting and organizing training workshops and educational fairs, that enhances the curriculum and student participation in this field. Lately, the club has organized training workshops on 3D-printing, Solidworks 3D modelling training and MATLAB workshops. Moreover, the student body has organized 7 successful exhibitions in the past with high student participation.
MECHTRIX 8.0
The main event is accompanied by two major side events viz. Pulchowk Math-Physics Olympiad and ISCEN (“the 1st International Symposium: Control, Energy, Nano-Engineering”). These events will be held before the start of the actual exhibition and are intended for different audiences.
The Math-Physics Olympiad is an academic competition to test the academic prowess of high-school science students in Nepal.
The ISCEN symposium is a seminar on Control Systems, Renewable energy and nano-engineering. Scholars and Engineering Students from different colleges will be attending this event, where several national and international industry experts will share their knowledge on the subject matter.
Mechtrix 8.0, itself, consists of various mini-events that will be held during the 3-day fair.
Major attractions of the fair are:
BE Design Competition
The BE Design Competition is the core of this exhibition and has been conducted since the start of the fair. It invites students of bachelor’s engineering to participate and design machines of many uses and functions.
+2 Mechanical Design Competition
It is similar to the BE design competition but invites high school students to compete with each other by fabricating their ideas into reality. The requirements for entry is much less strict than BE design competition and the projects can have more flexibility.
Drone Competition
In this competition, drone pilots and makers compete to finish a race track. It is conducted with active collaboration with RAN(Robotics Association of Nepal) and invites participants of all nature.
Robo-ball
This event hosts robots that are designed to play football. The rules of the game are same as football and robots compete with each other to get to the top.
Other major attractions of the event are:
- Go-Kart Racing
- Automobile display Section, and
- Aeronautical Design Section
Mechtrix 8.0 is the culmination of a long tradition of SOMES’ active efforts to grow and nurture student innovation. The event will be held in 19th, 20th and 21st of Magh,2074 B.S. Interested one can go to Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk to participate in this event.
