Despite series of smartphones hitting the stores one after another, Huawei has not taken a break. And to give continuity, the company has officially unveiled their new Y6 Prime in Nepal. The successor to the Y6 II (sorta) — launched a couple of years ago — the Prime variant of the phone has one major upgrade; the 18:9 wide display.
Despite the beautiful 18:9 aspect ratio, the 5.7-inch display still make use of the 720p panel with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixel (HD+). As beautiful as the phone gets, the Y6 Prime is rather powered by a low-end Snapdragon 425 chipset. No Kirin chipset here. Accompanying the chipset is still 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
Shifting the focus at the back, there’s a single 13MP camera with an LED flash. Despite the phone coming with a single camera, the setup is quite deceptive, making it look like a dual-camera at first glance. Thanks to a rather uncanny design of the camera chassis.
Selfies are taken care of by an average 5MP camera with a selfie toning LED flash. The front camera not only takes selfies but also is helpful for the phone’s face unlocking feature. Or you could just use the fingerprint scanner placed at the back.
Booting the phone is Android 8.0 Oreo on top of EMUI 8.0 out of the box. As for the battery, there’s a 3,000mAh one which can be charged via micro USB 2.0 port.
Pricing and Availability
The Huawei Y6 Prime will be available in three color options, including Gold, Black, and Blue. As for the pricing, the phone starts at Rs. 17,900 in Nepal, which is a bit much for a device that still runs on a low-end hardware. There’s still the Y7 Pro 2018 from Huawei for you folks out there looking for a bit powerful one.
