After all the rumors and leaks, Xiaomi has officially taken the wrap of their new flagship Mi 8 in China. And it looks like the phone has really taken a good shape with a powerful hardware and a notch. The notch though has its own use. This time around, Xiaomi has integrated infrared sensors for 3D face unlocks even in dark lighting conditions.
The interesting thing here is that the phone also has a so-called Explorer Edition that has a rare on-screen fingerprint scanner and a transparent back which gives you peek of the phone’s powerful internals.
Although the hardware of this phone shouldn’t be taken for granted, the camera is what most of the people would be looking for in it. The Xiaomi Mi 8 has a dual-camera setup that has a pair of 12MP (f/1.8, 1.4µm) and 12MP (f/2.4, 1.0 µm) sensors. Out of the two, the latter is a telephoto lens. Likewise, the camera also sparks the ongoing trend of implementing AIs. It has an AI features with enhancements for over 200 scenes and a 4-in-1 pixel binning for better low-light photography.
Interestingly enough, Xiaomi CEO proudly claims that the phone’s DxOMark score outshines the likes of iPhone X and even its Mi Mix 2s with a score of 99 points.
Talking about the selfie camera, the front comprises a 20MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. And without any guess, the phone also joins the bandwagon for the AI Beauty and Portrait mode.
While the camera is definitely a strong point of this phone, the hardware is no slouch either. Though common, the Snapdragon 845 chipset inside the phone helps it to score an unbelievable Antutu score of 301,472 is really uncommon.
At the front, the phone shines a bigger 6.21-inch AMOLED display with 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The beautiful display results in a Full HD+ resolution (2248 x 1080 pixels).
For pricing, the device has 3 different variants — CNY2,699 for the 6/64GB one, CNY2,999 for the 6/128GB variant and CNY3,299 for the 6/256GB variant. All of these models are expected to go on sale from June 5 through online and offline stores.
There’s also a separate Explorer Edition that comes with a much bigger 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and will carry a price tag of CNY3,799 or $600 approximately.
