Just after the launch of the flagship Mi 8, Xiaomi has started to stack-up their mid-range lineup with brand new devices. Successors to last year’s Redmi 5, both the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A comes with MediaTek’s Helio processor and some usual stuff from Xiaomi.
The Xiaomi Redmi 6 has a 5.45-inch 720p display with — not so exceptional — 18:9 aspect ratio. Just beneath it is the MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core chipset built under 12nm technology. The power-efficient chipset clocks at a speed of 2.0GHz. Powering the phone will be a 3,000mAh battery; less than the Redmi 5, though the efficient processor should do some justice.
And as usual, the Redmi 6 will come in two memory variants. One with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, other with a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Both configurations will come with a support for microSD card.
Optically, the phone’s decent as well — dual-camera setup of 12MP + 5MP at the back and a 5MP front camera for selfies.
The front camera though will help you unlock your phone through your face. Thanks to Xiaomi’s AI-powered MIUI 10 software baked inside. If in case the face unlock feels a little bit vague, you could always use the fingerprint scanner located at the back.
On the other hand, the Redmi 6A, being more affordable comes with some compromises. Despite boasting a similar aesthetics, the phone’s hardware is a bit downgraded than its elder brother.
Processing the tasks will be an Helio A22 chipset with similar power-efficient 12nm technology but with quad-core architecture. The chipset’s still clocks at 2.0GHz though. However, Xiaomi has cut some corners here too with a rather low-profile 2GB RAM and 16GB of onboard storage.
Likewise, at the rear, there’s a single 13MP camera with LED flash. Selfies are taken care of by a similar 5MP camera at the front.
At the back, the Redmi 6A is missing fingerprint scanner, however, thanks to MIUI 10, the AI face unlock is still present on the phone.
For the pricing, the 3GB/32GB model of Redmi 6 will cost $125, whilst the 4GB/64GB will be priced at $155. And for the Redmi 6A, it barely costs $99.
