After long run leaks and rumors, Xiaomi has officially taken the wrap of two of the most awaited smartphones; the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Both smartphones boast some commendable internals and a beautiful hardware while also stays affordable at the same time.
Xiaomi Mi A2
The Mi A2 is a no surprise here. The mid-ranger’s specs were already surfing on the internet way before its launch. And it has to be said, those rumors have really taken shape of a great smartphone.
Staying away from the notch, the Xiaomi Mi A2 comes with a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with 2160 x 1080 pixel of resolution. The display, as claimed, will offer 85% NTSC color coverage and 1500:1 contrast ratio, while being protected with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5. And with a bit taller aspect ratio, the phone looks gorgeous from the front.
Now let’s shift all the focus to the camera; an integral part of the Mi A2 package. Previously, the Mi A1 came with some decent set of cameras, and this time Xiaomi has managed to cramp up even more tech inside it. At the back is a pair of 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 lens and has 1µm of the pixel. The second one is a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor with a same lens and 1.25µm of the pixel.
The single front camera uses the same sensor of the back — i.e. 20MP Sony IMX376. The front camera is capable of attaching four photos into one to produce excellent shots even in dark lighting conditions. And then there’s an AI stuffs from Xiaomi as well as the HDR and an LED flash for brighter images.
At the helm of its heart is a Snapdragon 660 chipset accompanied by either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. The company has provided a bunch of storage options, including the 32GB one and 64GB with 4GB of RAM. There’s also a 128GB variant which comes with 6GB of RAM.
Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t have a microSD card slot, so choosing a large storage would be a wise decision.
The remaining bits and pieces include software and battery. The Xiaomi Mi A2 is one of the few mid-range phones that comes with a stock Android 8.1 Oreo. With the phone being a part of the Android One program, it is assured to get regular updates till at least 2 years. That’s a blessing for most of the purist. As for the battery, it has a decent 3,000mAh inside an aluminum body.
The Xiaomi Mi A2’s sales are expected to start from 27th of August for $290 for the 4GB/32GB storage, $325 for the 4GB/64GB, and $408 for the 6GB/128GB variant.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite
The Mi A2 Lite is a slight upgrade from over last year’s Mi A1. Some of the noticeable changes can be seen on the display part with a notch and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The display measures 5.84-inch in size and FullHD+ resolution.
Inside is the same Snapdragon 625 chipset but with a bigger 4,000mAh battery that’s expected to last for around 6 hours of heavy usage.
Despite the back looking similar to Mi A2, the camera it holds is quite different. The dual-camera at the back boasts 12MP + 5MP sensors. Out of two, the first one is the main shooter with 1.25µm pixel size and PDAF.
The Mi A2 Lite comes in two different variants, including 3GB/32GB storage and 4GB/64GB storage. Fortunately, though there’s a separate microSD slot for expansion.
As far as pricing is concerned, the 3GB/32GB model will cost $209 and the 4GB/64GB will cost $267.
Both phones are expected to launch in Nepal within a month or two with an expected price tag of Rs. 35,000 for the base model of Mi A2 and Rs. 25,000 for the Mi A2 Lite.
