The wait is over, OPPO has finally unveiled their new F9 in Nepal. A successor to OPPO’s F7, the F9 comes with improvements over internals as well as aesthetics — mostly in the notch area. Despite all the goodness and changes it carries, the F9 is still a selfie-centric midrange phone with improved AI functionality.
First, let’s talk about that infamous notch. Dubbed as the “waterdrop” screen by OPPO, love it or hate it, it is probably the tiniest notch out there in a smartphone. While OPPO has already perfected the bezel-less design in the form of OPPO Find X, the F9 is still one of the best phones you can get on a budget without compromising your viewing experience. A huge 6.3-inch FullHD+ display is well complemented with a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio that has an impressive 90.8% screen to body ratio — a little bit below than its own Find X. It’s also one of the first few phones to be protected with Gorilla Glass 6 protection.
Performing and managing the task is a MediaTek Helio P60 chipset coupled up with either 4/64GB or 6/64GB of memory variants. The good thing is that it does have a slot for microSD card for expansion. The chipset, also found on its predecessor, is responsible for handling all the AI tasks as well, including the AI beautification 2.1.
Talking about the beautification, the small notch is cramped up with a 25MP selfie snapper that looks really impressive, at least on paper. The thing here is that the selfie snapper comes with hardware support for HDR, which hopefully does a good offering vivid selfies. Unfortunately, the company couldn’t manage to implement an IR scanner inside its tiny notch.
The rear, as expected, comes with a low-res camera but it shouldn’t be taken for granted. There’s a pair of 16MP(f/1.8) + 2MP dual-camera at the back: the first one is a normal lens, while the second is used to create bokeh effects.
Powering the needs and necessities is a decent 3,500mAh battery that comes with the company’s revolutionary VOOC Flash charge support. The fast charging tech, as claimed, is expected to provide up to 2-hours of talk time with just 5-minutes of charging. The only bummer here is that the charging is carried out through an out-dated microUSB 2.0 port rather than a Type-C one. On the other hand, the F9 does have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
