Qualcomm has come up with its flagship processor for the mobile phone devices! Yes, you saw it right, Qualcomm has announced its new Snapdragon 855 processor in the Snapdragon Technology Summit held in Hawaii.
The new Snapdragon 855 is the successor of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor which was launched by the company exactly one year before. But, the new processor brings a lot on offer, i.e. it’s said to support “multi-gigabit” download speed on 5G networks and so is almost sure to feature in the first stream of 5G phones.
Snapdragon 855 chip supporting 5G networks and devices can definitely be called a good forward leap from the company as companies like AT&T and Verizon have already brought 5G tech in devices, which used to be just theoretical just some years back.
Thus, Verizon and AT&T will more likely display Qualcomm 855, Qualcomm’s chip-based 5G phones and hotspots along with already existing X50 LTE modem soon.
Similarly, it’s more likely that many flagship mobile phone devices in the year 2019 will feature Snapdragon 855. It seems more real because Qualcomm is certainly looking forward to improving its processor every year so that the processing power, battery life, image processing, gaming, AI (machine learning) of mobile phones also get improvised.
Qualcomm has just stated that the new chip will boost the AI performance of the devices by three times in comparison to the previous generation mobile platforms. Also, it’s stated that the new chip will sum up a new dedicated computer vision processor, which is useful for camera intelligence. Again, it’s also expected to improve gaming and AR experience as well.
Qualcomm also said that the later Snapdragon processor will be based on a 7nm manufacturing process in contrast to the 10nm ones in older Snapdragon 835 and 845 chips. Thus, improvement in efficiency can be expected.
We’ll have to wait for more updates on the Snapdragon 855 chip as the summit continues.
