Xiaomi is working on its foldable smartphone. And it’s predictable as there are already a couple of videos providing hints, one of which include Xiaomi’s founder giving a hands-on demonstration of the company’s upcoming foldable phone.
Seems like Xiaomi doesn’t want to miss out on a race where other smartphone brands are already trying to adopt new foldable form-factor in their devices, which might be called itself an innovation or the part of innovation but it’s better to wait and watch where all these go. For now, let’s talk about the one from Xiaomi.
The company issued an official statement to LetsGoDigital, describing the foldable phone backdrops of its development, design, and challenges with the flexible display and folding mechanism. It also talked about how the company’s MIUI works with folding contour as well as its partnership with a supplier for developing such display.
LetsGoDigital published some 3D renders of Xiaomi’s foldable device on the basis of previous leaks by the company. However, the UI shown is not what the company will use on the device. For the prototype, Xiaomi is pondering two names — ‘Xiaomi Dual Flex’ and ‘Xiaomi MIX Flex’, but don’t be sure that the company will definitely use either of these names after the device becomes finally ready.
Talking about the device, it comprises two folding sections that bend backward, so the middle part is the only section that makes the use of the UI in the phone. And when opened, i.e. the folding parts are not bent, the device will turn to a larget tablet with thin bezels and users get the entire display to use.
The 3D renders don’t clearly show how the camera of the device is but we can speculate it behind the center of the phone. While for selfies, the camera in the center doesn’t make sense because an off-center camera would help users to take selfies by folding back one of the sections of the screen to use it as a viewfinder.
Similarly, there’s a button at the top center of the device and a USB-C port at the bottom. The earpiece is also considered to be at the top bezel.
