March 24, 2019, marks a special occasion for Sparrow SMS as it reached its ninth year of operation. And during this period it served over 15 million users.
Sparrow SMS is the initiation of Janaki Technology Pvt. Ltd. and was formed with the aim of providing easy access to information technology to Nepalese via mobile messaging services.
It got started when the majority of Nepalese didn’t have internet access. Thus people could use text messaging service to exchange information.
In the meantime, Sparrow SMS stands as one of the leading mobile messaging services in Nepal, serving several government organizations, local level governments, and other well-known brands of Nepal. It serves daily information and alerts via SMS to the public.
Some of its services include National Exam Results, Safe Migration Labor Permit Status, Election Updates, Human Trafficking Vulnerability SMS Reporting, SMS Based Disaster Response Management System, Blood Donors search, SMS Based Livestock Management & Reporting System, Health Report, Agro-Market Info, etc.
During the time of the earthquake in 2015, which affected thousands of Nepalese lives, Sparrow SMS served via online app portal that the people could use to ask for help. Via Sparrow SMS, the SMSs were mapped in Google Map service that the volunteers could use to dispatch relief distribution programs.
Furthermore, it has been providing SMS service to more than 1800 organizations in Nepal that include government institutions, I/NGOs, banks and financial institutions, schools and colleges among others. And it provides SMS service to over 250 municipalities and rural municipalities across the nation.
Much recently, it also made an agreement with the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) Nepal to provide license exam result and smart card print status via SMS.
We would like to congratulate Sparrow SMS and their team for this tremendous feat.
