Huawei’s Nova series has been well received by users across Nepal. The Nova 3 and 3i were one of the best selling phones in the Nepali market; racking up 2,000 sales in just one day. On top of that, recent release including Huawei’s P30 series came with one of the best cameras out there. Now for people looking for a phone with a great camera and affordable price, the new Huawei Nova 5 series — which includes Nova 5 Pro, Nova 5 and Nova 5i — could suffice their needs.
Belonging to the upper echelon of mid-rangers, the Nova 5 brings Huawei’s second 7nm chipset, i.e. the Kirin 810. The brand new octa-core chipset has two 2.27GHz Cortex-A76 cores and six 1.88GHz Cortex-A55 cores. Similarly, the Kirin 810 is powered by Mali-G52 GPU for an increase in graphics performance. But the biggest addition of all is the new NPU that brings the dedicated AI chipset in Huawei’s mid-range phone for the first time.
There’s also a Pro version, i.e. Nova 5 Pro. The pro version offers an upgraded Kirin 980 flagship chipset rather than the Kirin 810 processor — the only major difference between the duo.
Huawei’s innovation in the camera department has not gone unnoticed, thanks to the P30 series. And the Nova 5 series is no exception, you get great cameras all around. The phone has quad cameras at the back that offers a 48MP main sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP depth sensor, and 2MP macro lens. Similarly, the waterdrop notch at the front hosts a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera. Both phones support super night mode and have various AI scene recognition.
Just like the back, the front’s filled with exciting upgrades. The phones have 6.39-inch Full HD+ display with an OLED panel which also happens to come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The display has TUV certification and supports DCI-P3 color gamut and DC dimming.
The Nova 5 series has a 3,500mAh battery that supports the 40W fast charging, which fills up 50 percent of the battery in 15 minutes, and 85 percent in 30 minutes.
Another addition to the lineup is the Nova 5i, a mid-range phone that offers Kirin 710 chipset, a 4,000mAh battery, and a 6.4-inch LCD panel with punch hole display at the top left that hides a 24MP selfie camera. The Nova 5i also has four cameras: 24MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide shooter, 2MP depth sensor and 2MP macro lens.
All of these phones run on Android 9 Pie on top of EMUI 9 out of the box.
Coming to the price, the Nova 5 Pro is priced at CNY 2,999 (approx. $436) for 8/128GB model, whereas the 8/256GB carries a price tag of CNY 3,399, i.e. $494 approx. On the other hand, the standard Nova 5 will be available for CNY 2,799 (approx. $407) for the only available 8/128GB variant. The Nova 5i will set you back CNY 1,999 (approx. $291) for 6/128GB version, and CNY 2,199 (approx. $320) for the 8/128GB variant.
