Xiaomi’s sub-brand, the Black Shark, has been in highlight mainly for its gaming handset. The Black Shark 2, launched back a while ago, was one of the best gaming phones you could buy but that changes today. The company has unveiled the phone’s new revamped version, the Black Shark 2 Pro which comes with upgraded chipset and some minor performance tweaks.
One of the perks of having a gaming phone is the about raw power you get and the statement holds true here. The Black Shark 2 Pro comes with an upgraded Snapdragon 855+ alongside 12GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage.
The powerful specs certainly show on the Antutu benchmark, with a score of 500,610 — the highest on the platform till now. Having such powerful internals can get literally out of the hand while gaming, mainly due to heating issues, but the phone has got you covered. It comes with an updated liquid cooling 3.0 which now has a liquid-cooled plate and tube for dissipating heat and better thermal management.
Another improvement is at the front. The device has the same 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display but the company claims that they have managed to lower down the latency from 43.5ms on Black Shark 2 to 34.7ms, which could be significant for gamers. Other features like the in-display fingerprint scanner and stereo speakers seen on Black Shark 2 is still present here.
Cameras are not a forte of mobile gaming devices but the Black Shark 2 Pro’s camera specs are quite impressive on paper. The rear is handled by dual cameras of 48MP normal sensor with f/1.75 lens and a 12MP f/2.2 secondary one. The front sees a 20MP f/2.0 camera for selfies.
On the other hand, the battery still sits at 4,000mAh with 27W fast charging, while on the software side the phone has got a pretty much stock Android 9 Pie running on.
The Black Shark 2 Pro will be available for purchase from August 2 for a starting price of CNY 2,999 ($435) for 12GB/128GB variant, while the 12GB/256GB model will cost CNY 3,499 ($508). The phone will be available in five different colors: Orange, Blue, Black, Silver, and Purple.
