MAW Enterprises Pvt. Ltd is all set to launch the most awaited Yamaha MT-15 in Nepali market in the NADA Auto Show with the price tag of Rs. 4,25,000. The MT-15 is inspired by its bigger MT sibling but is based on the previously launched R15 V3 as it shares most of its list in between them.
The MT-15 will probably be one of the good looking streetfighter bikes available in the market. It gets a Bi-functional LED headlamp which gives bold looks with twin slot daytime running lights and a single LED headlight in the center helps to set the road presence as it resembles Transformer-like face. The look is further enhanced by the sculpted fuel tank with radiator shrouds and a plastic belly pan. It gets single split seat treatment, extended tail section, and LED tail lamp at the rear.
It borrows the same instrument cluster from the V3 which displays a digital speedometer, bar-style tachometer, gear indicator, odometer, trip meter and a fuel gauge along with ABS warning lamp.
The Yamaha MT-15 shares the same 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as the R15 V3 with the Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. The motor churns out 19 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of peak torque at 8,500 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch as standard. The top speed on the MT-15 is rated at 118 kmph and it provides a range of approx 48kmpl.
Unlike the R15 V3, the MT-15 houses the Delta box frame but it still has the same suspension setup- telescopic forks upfront and a monoshock unit at the rear rather than the USD fork as seen on the international market. Braking is taken care by a single 282 mm disc at the front and a 220 mm disc at the rear. But what it misses out is the dual-channel ABS system from the V3 but gets the single-channel ABS as standard. The bike rides on 100/80 R17 tires at the front, whereas the rear uses a 140/70 R17 unit.
