After much anticipation, Xiaomi has taken the wrap off its Mi A3 device. Like previous A-series devices, this one is also a part of Android One program, although the internals is minor upgrades to the existing Mi A2.
Despite being a small iterative upgrade, the Mi A3 sports pretty capable triple-camera sensors at the back. There’s a normal 48MP snapper at the rear with a bright f/1.78 aperture which pairs with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 118-degree field of view. And then there’s a 2MP depth sensor.
The rear camera can capture 2160p video at 30fps or 1080p at up to 120fps. Finally, there’s a 32MP selfie shooter cramped inside the teardrop notch.
Talking about the notch, just below it is a 6.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1560 x 720 pixel. This means that the current upgrade has a low-res display than its predecessor, albeit an OLED screen. The display is protected with Gorilla Glass 5, while the phone also has P2i splash-proof coating preventing it against minor splashes.

Internally, the phone gets a Snapdragon 665 chipset which is a decent improvement over the Mi A2’s Snapdragon 660. The phone has two variants: 4/64GB and 6/128GB, both having a microSD card slot for expansion.
Other refinements can be seen in terms of the battery; the phone comes with a 4,030mAh battery over last year’s 3,000mAh. It also supports 18W fast charging but you get only 10W power brick out of the box.
Likewise, the phone also revives the 3.5mm headphone jack which was missing from the Mi A2, while the fingerprint scanner shifts inside the display, which is a testament to current trends. Regarding software, being an Android One device, the Mi A3 is assured to get major Android upgrades for 2 years and monthly security updates for 3 years. Out of the box, the device ships with Android 9 Pie but will get Android 10 update shortly.
