TikTok has become a global phenomenon as the recent report from SensorTower analytics suggests that the app has surpassed 1.5 billion downloads and sits in third place for most downloaded apps worldwide for 2019. This also means the Chinese app has successfully broken Facebook’s dominance on both Google Play and App Store lagging behind just WhatsApp and Messenger while leapfrogging Facebook and Instagram.
This remarkable feat has been achieved within just three years of its launch in 2016. Recent data also shows that the app alone, in Q3 of 2019, managed a total of 176.5 million downloads both across Android and iOS devices worldwide. This data, however, don’t count the number of downloads from the third-party app stores in China where TikTok is well-liked.
Back in February of 2019, the app managed to hit 1 billion downloads and since then has grown by 500 million more users. To break the data by geography, India has managed to top the list for the most number of downloads with an approximate 466.8 million installation on both iOS and Android. China is not far away in the list coming in at second with an estimated 173.2 million downloads, while the US is placed third with around 123.8 million downloads.
On the other hand, in-app spending has also ascended as the app raked in around $115.3 million during 2019. Users from China have been estimated to spend $84.5 million or nearly 50% of the overall spending. Likewise, the US is at second with $62.4 million and Great Britain at third with $6.9 million.
