Started in the year 2012 by Rocket Internet, Daraz seems to be working hard thereby making its mark in the online industry as it has reached 2020. It got through an extensive app revamp in 2018, the same year when the Chinese multinational conglomerate Alibaba acquired the company. Furthermore, it went through several developments in the following year resulting in its massive growth.
Currently, Daraz operates in five nations across the world including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar.
In numbers, since 2018, Daraz has beheld a jeering increment in sellers and buyers by 200% and increment in orders by 270%.
The company thereupon witnessed several successful campaigns in 2019. It celebrated the 2nd edition of its Daraz 11.11 in 2019 that received 1 lakh plus orders and registered above 3.5 lakh users in a single day, which is double in numbers in contrast to the company’s 11.11 campaign in 2018.
Also, Daraz had many new upgrades in 2019 including pre-payment availability via Debit/Credit card as well as better review and rating system that even consists of a feature allowing direct chat with the seller in real-time a.k.a. instant messaging. In-app games is yet another added feature.
Moreover, the company acclaims a massive investment in its infrastructure and resources in order to set-up its own logistics unit called ‘Daraz Express’ (DEX) and employing more than 300 personnel. Soon brands such as Samsung, Casio, Adidas, Titan, Xiaomi, Sonam Gears, TVS, etc. joined the company.
Daraz now asserts to host more than 100,000 daily users and to deliver more than 1.6 lakh packages all over Nepal every month. Similarly, it holds more than 3,000 sellers that sell millions of products to Nepalese customers. It looks forward to increasing its network thereby increasing its sellers and customers in 2020 alongside adding more delivery locations allowing more Nepalese customers to purchase online.
Again, Daraz has also made an assertion of its work in coming up with new payment methods like digital wallets alongside more entertainment features for its customers in this 2020.
What’s more? Daraz applauds to digitize the logistical ecosystem. Despite criticisms from commencement, the company has witnessed a meteoric rise over the years. It looks forward to staying aspired thereby leading Nepal into a digital era.
Managing Directors at Daraz, Mr. Lino Ahlering, and Mr. Jai Kavi commented that the company runs with an aim to provide the best service and experience to its customers, which itself is impossible without feedback by the customers. Mr. Ahlering stated, “Everything we do is a stress test for the next 11.11. We constantly look into ways to make the sellers, the customer experience, customer service, and the infrastructure better. We always look back to see what we can improve. This mindset led us to double our figure compared to the first 11.11. We know we are far from being perfect. We are young, and still in an early stage, and we still need to learn a lot. Customer feedback is what we rely on to improve ourselves no matter if it is positive or negative.”
