Launched on 30th October 2019, the Apple AirPods Pro was regarded as a miscellany of a greater fit, greater sound, however greater price tag as well. Later on, several AirPods Pro owners complained regarding worse noise cancellation after firmware updates with some people prompting the device to work better at launch. Also, Apple pulled the firmware C254 for some unknown reasons while the customers had complaints starting from the firmware 2B588. Turned out, Apple was found tweaking the sound profile using these updates.
Apple, coming from the original AirPods, keeps the firmware updates totally invisible to the customers. Also, you can’t adjust the noise cancellation intensity from the “settings” menu, which doesn’t seem ideal to users.
Anyway, we have no option other than seeing what Apple does with the firmware updates or the sound profile tweaking, whatever really it is.
Besides, you can now buy the AirPods Pro in Nepal via Oliz Store and EvoStore, both offering it at different price tags. We’ll discuss it later, for now, let’s take a quick overlook at the device.
Apple AirPods Pro Overview
The AirPods Pro comes with added silicone ear tips, necessary in noise-canceling earbuds. Apple also has added the Adaptive EQ feature for greater sound quality which allows automatic tuning of frequencies (low and mid-range) suitable to the ears of each individual. It also has an onboard amplifier for pure and clear sound along with a battery life extension, while inside is the drivers that can produce bass down to 20Hz to round out the immersive audio quality.
To determine the right size tip for your ear, Apple has built-in an Ear Tip Fit Test [in iOS] to examine the seal for each of your ear.
The AirPods Pro comes with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), for which it implements two microphones on each earbud along with software to constantly adapt the ANC level to the ears. One microphone keeps a tab on each earbud whereas the other one faces inward and picks up any additional sound that may remain. The company acclaims that the setup constantly analyzes the sound 200 times per second.
You can put the AirPods Pro’s ANC to the test at the gym as well, as it’s IPX4-rated true wireless ones that can hold up just fine to sweat during workouts. Rtings.com rates noise isolation to be 8.6 while the noise handling to be 6.4.
Alongside ANC, the AirPods Pro gives you options with the transparency mode as well — this allows you to hear stuff that is going around or have a quick conversation. You’ll be able to activate the transparency mode using a force sensor directly on the earbud itself. Apple uses the tech to provide onboard controls to the users thereby you can use it to play/pause, skip tracks or even answer your phone calls. On the other hand, for the volume adjustment, you’ll need to reach out to your phone. But it has added a volume slider to Control Center and you can make use of the Apple Watch to bring the change.
Similarly, it is equipped with Apple’s H1 chip, which was found in earlier AirPods as well, so that Siri is always listening.
As for the battery, the company claims it to offer five hours of playback as previous AirPods models with ANC turned off. However, with ANC turned on, the battery can last up to around 4.5 hours of listening and 3.5 of talk time. Also with the included charging case, you can get up to 24 hours total. And the case can be wirelessly charged using a Qi-certified mat.
