Huawei has upped the game by launching the new P40 Pro+ with two telephoto cameras (yes two!) as well as the fastest wireless charging ever on a mobile device.
The “Plus” variant uses two zoom cameras at the rear — the first has a focal length of 240mm, which is almost twice as long as its counterpart, the P40 Pro with 125mm. The sensor is accompanied by an 8MP sensor with OIS. That’s possibly the longest sensor on a mobile device yet, and Huawei had to craft a unique design to fit it inside.
However, that’s not the only lens in the Pro+ model. It also has another zoom lens with 80mm to fill the gap between the extreme telephoto camera and the regular camera. This should allow you to capture images from varying distances with more flexibility.
Not only that, but the Huawei P40 Pro+ also manages to offer insanely fast wireless charging feature, 40W to be exact. Of course, various other companies have shown prototypes but for now, Huawei is the only one to bring it to consumers. The 4,200mAh battery also supports 40W wired charging. And, indeed, there’s support for reverse wireless charging as well.
Huawei’s flagships have always been on top in terms of aesthetics and the P40 Pro+ continues that trend with a back made out of ceramic which Huawei claims to be as strong as sapphire. It is machined with a special cutting head for some of the tighter curves of the design. Though, there’s just Black and White color option — it’s still IP68 water and dust resistant.
Besides that, the rest of the specs are pretty similar. The phone still uses the same Kirin 990 5G chipset with 8GB of RAM, similar to its siblings, but gets a major upgrade in terms of storage with 512GB capacity.
Optically, barring two zoom cameras, the phone comprises of similar lenses: the 1/1.28″ 50MP sensor — the largest sensor in the mobile device — with RYYB filter as well as 100% phase-detection coverage. The 40MP ultrawide camera is there alongside the color temperature sensor and 3D ToF sensor at the back.
Much like the Pro variant, this one also has the same 6.58-inch OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. The front sees the same 32MP selfie camera paired with an IR facial scanner — alternative to an in-display fingerprint scanner that is 30% larger than its predecessors.
Pricing wise, the Huawei P40 Pro+ will cost €1,399 and will be available from June. There’s no word of its availability in Nepal but even if does make out, be ready to spend a chunk of your budget.
