The user database of Vianet, one of the largest internet service providers in Nepal, has been breached and compromised. Reportedly, the personal data of around 170,000 consumers have been leaked on the internet, making it one of the largest data breaches in Nepal.
A Twitter handle that goes by the name “नरपिचास” has posted a link that redirects to more than 170,000 Vianet users’ data dump including their names; email addresses; phone numbers; and even addresses, the link anchored on the “Onion Network” — which can be accessed by using, more specifically, a TOR browser.
Vianet, on the other hand, has not released any official statement yet. Similarly, upon a conversation with one of their officials, it expressed an incognizant response stating that they are not all there, but they will get back to us after a thorough check on the situation.
This, however, is not the first time we have witnessed the data breach as we came across a similar situation with Foodmandu a month ago with 50,000 users’ data in the vicinity getting compromised.
