Last Friday, few editors at The Verge came across an update screen on Instagram Mobile app on both Android and iOS platforms that said “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram” including a new colorful look for the chat, added emojis, swipe-to-reply, and chat with friends who use Facebook.
Reportedly, Facebook was planning to merge WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram for a long time, however, keeping the apps independent.
The update will be followed by the replacement of the Instagram DM logo with the Messenger logo thereby allowing the new features. However, according to The Verge, chatting with the ones using Facebook is not enabled for now.
For users that don’t update they will still be receiving message requests on Instagram from Facebook. The whole merger is intended towards consolidating the chat experience across Messenger and Instagram and finally integrating WhatsApp as well with the entire service encrypted from end-to-end.
