Qualcomm has revealed the all-new Snapdragon 888 for everyone to have a look at. The chipset brings in plenty of significant upgrades to be excited about. Besides, it’s ready to power the next wave of 2021 Android flagships from the likes of Samsung, Realme, LG, Sony, Vivo, OnePlus, Xiaomi, ZTE, Asus, Nubia, and more.
The Snapdragon 888, in contrast to last year’s Snapdragon 865, now has a fully integrated 5G modem. Meaning, manufacturers, by themselves, don’t have to worry about integrating a dedicated modem chip in their smartphones.
The Snapdragon 888 will come with the recently announced 5nm process based X60 modem from Qualcomm that is said to deliver better power efficiency and enhancement for 5G carrier aggregation across the mmWave and sub-6GHz bands of the spectrum. It even looks forward to offering significant enhancement in the battery life with 5G.
Aside from 5G, Qualcomm made various revelations that include its 6th generation AI Engine and Adreno GPU performance. The 6th generation AI Engine runs on a redesigned Qualcomm Hexagon processor, hence acclaiming vast improvement in performance and power efficiency when it comes to AI tasks. On the other hand, the new Adreno GPU looks forward to peeking at 144fps gaming as well as updateable GPU driver support.
The new chipset offers Wi-Fi 6E alongside Bluetooth 5.2 for local wireless connectivity. The Wi-Fi 6E works in the 6GHz band as well. The Spectra ISP gets faster by 35% ensuring 2.7 gigapixels per second image data processing translating to approximately 120 photos at 12MP resolution.
We are yet to know plenty of information on the Snapdragon 888 but it’s almost sure that Xiaomi will be the first of many to implement this chipset on its device. Be with us for more updates on this though.
