MediaTek takes wrap off of the new 6nm based Dimensity chipsets, the Dimensity 1200 and the Dimensity 1100 with the first-ever Cortex-A78 in the entire Dimensity line. Both chips make use of similar hardware components, however, focus on different boxes.
Premium out of the two, the Dimensity 1200 comes with a single A78 core clocked at 3.0GHz, three A78 cores clocked at 2.6GHz, and four A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz.
In comparison to earlier Dimensity 1000+ shipped with an A77 core clocked at 2.6GHz, Dimensity 1200 with an A78 core clocked at 3.0GHz is supposedly 20 percent faster on a single thread. The chip is said to boost CPU performance and power efficiency by 22% and 25% respectively.
On the other hand, the new Dimensity 1100 has four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6GHz with improved architecture for enhanced single and multi-core performance on top of ancillary hardware.
Both the Dimensity 1200 and 1100 carry Mali-G77 GPU seen in Dimensity 1000 line with 9 cores. And the AV1 does include hardware acceleration.
The Dimensity 1200 supports up to 168Hz screens and the 5-core ISP supports up to 200MP camera. The chip can stream 4K videos with HDR whilst gets a 40% increment in dynamic range as well. As for the Dimensity 1100, it too supports 144Hz screens and up to 108MP camera lens.
Moreover, the chipsets come with a dedicated Night Mode focusing on panorama shots and can process night shots 20% faster.
Smartphone makers such as Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Realme have already announced smartphones that will power the Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100 chipset, slated to launch towards the end of Q1 and the beginning of Q2 2021.
