Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is set to put smart lights on the roads of Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts. The Authority has already agreed with the respective metropolitan and sub-metropolitan office for the same. Cost distribution has also been finalized with NEA bearing 40% and respective offices bearing 60% of the total cost for each district.
NEA has already asked contractors for a bid for the Lalitpur district. For Kathmandu, whereas, NEA will soon finalize contractors for the smart lights. The contractors will also be responsible for all maintenance tasks over the next 5 years.
Similarly, the smart lights are getting linked with the NEA servers. This means NEA holds the right to remotely switch them on and off as well as administer usage and tariffs.
The authority will be installing 1,127 90W and 851 120W lamps inside Kathmandu whilst 239 60W and 1,161 90W lamps inside Lalitpur. Moreover, it’s planning to install 200 mast lights across 15 different places.
