After showcasing its true prowess with Mix 4 smartphone, Xiaomi is pushing towards the tablet market with its Pad 5 series — its entry in this segment after three years of hiatus.
The series comes with two models — the standard Pad 5 that has Wi-Fi only and the Pad 5 Pro with both Wi-Fi and 5G support. In terms of internals, the Pro model packs Snapdragon 870 chipset, while the Pad 5 goes for a rather old but promising Snapdragon 860 chipset, which makes them one of the few powerful Android tablets.
Both tablets bring an 11-inch panel with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s a 10-bit panel with support for Dolby Vision and HDR10, claiming up to 500 nits of peak brightness with TrueTone technology for adapting colors based on ambient light.
The rear camera placement somehow reminds us about the Mi 11 with its pill-shaped camera island. The same consists of a single 13MP main camera on the vanilla Pad 5, while the Wi-Fi-only Pro model has a 13MP main and 5MP ultra-wide shooter. Meanwhile, the Pro 5G up the ante with a 50MP main sensor alongside a 5MP ultrawide sensor.
The stylus is not something that you would see every day, especially from Xiaomi. But what it offers is practical enough for a day to day usage. The Xiaomi stylus has a weight of 12.2 grams with two buttons on its side, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It feeds from its own battery that can last 8 hours on a single charge. The magnetic keyboard, on the other hand, is something that’s commonly found on other tablets. You’ll get three color options on the keyboard to match the Pad 5’s colorways.
Powering the Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro is an 8,600mAh battery with an impressive 67W fast-charging — the first of its kind in a tablet. The non-Pro model, however, has a slightly bigger 8,720mAh cell with a less powerful 33W fast-charging, which is no slouch for a tablet.
On the software part you still have the MIUI but with support for tablets — it has multi-screen support for over 300 apps. The Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro also has four Dolby Atmos speakers — two at the top and two at the bottom.
