During the launch of the Tesla Semi, the all-electric heavy-duty truck, Tesla also revealed the new Roadster, which looks stunning, despite the fact that its chassis bears a similarity to Lotus Elise. The early announcement had the new Roadster to be available in 2020, though the reservation has started.
Musk claimed the base model will go from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds which would make it the fastest-accelerating production vehicle ever to accelerate to this speed in under two seconds. It will also go from 0-100mph in 4.1 seconds and cover a quarter mile drag strip in 8.9 seconds. Musk said he wouldn’t confirm the top speed, but hinted that it was above 250mph+; that’s faster than the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren F1.
The Roadster will boost on a 200kWh battery pack and run up to 620-mile range per charge, or over 1,000 kilometers. The all-electric vehicle has three motors — one in the front and two in the rear — all-wheel drive, and torque steering, ready to challenge with the likes of Bugatti Chiron or the Porsche 918 Spyder.
The base model of Roadster will go on sale for $200,000, while the Founders Edition, as confirmed will set users $250,000.
