The social networking giant – Facebook is one of the greatest social media platforms to have ever been created, but people shouldn’t forget that Facebook is frequently dragged into court cases, mostly for violating the privacy of users. The news about such violations can be usually seen on various social media – ironically- including Facebook but most of the user still don’t care. Even though Facebook updates their security protocols on a regular basis, the social networking site is still not suitable for those users who are concerned about their privacy(and most of you might be concerned).
Well, of course, there are advantages about Facebook too, and when used it can prove to be beneficial for some users but just before typing the address or opening Facebook’s application, here are some of the obvious reasons to delete your Facebook account.
1.It’s a complete wastage of time
Well, I have been using Facebook for a long period of time and trust me it has done nothing good to me rather than proving to be a waste of time. As per the study, it’s estimated that an average casual user mostly spends 17 minutes of his/her time by using Facebook on a daily basis, and to be a little bit more precise the user who is using Facebook for 10 years has wasted nearly 40 days of their precious lives by just scrolling through the news feed, commenting and liking cat pics, well I am talking about “casual” users only, so god knows about those heavy Facebook users. Of course, Facebook has advantages too and when used properly it can prove to be beneficial for some users, but for most of them, it’s nothing but just a treat to their brain as well as eyes.
2. Nobody cares about what you post anymore
It sounds that I am being a little bit harsh on you but it’s a truth that nobody on your friend’s list cares about you as well as your post on your timeline anymore. Well you maybe getting likes but most of the people won’t care anything about your post – whether you eat, play, sleep or roam around with “60 others people”, unless you post a pic that says “I’m currently hanging out with Leonardo DiCaprio or Will Smith!.” Here’s probably one of the most liked Instagram pic posted by Justin Bieber, which proves that hanging out with a superstar actually brings more attention.
Only a few people care about you and your lifestyle, so stop posting about your daily stuff on Facebook and do some productive things, meet your “real” friends and share some nostalgic moments with a cup of tea which will make your life a lot more memorable.
3. It ruins your health
Yes, Facebook ruins your health alongside your life. Of course, you won’t suffer from life threatening disease but as per the study, heavy use of Facebook can have bad effect on your digestive system, immune system, it also lowers the release of growth hormone, impact your vision as well as limits the creativity and thinking capacity of a person and disturbs the sleep pattern, which isn’t surprising.
4. Facebook’s ad policy is really deep
While signing up, most of the users agree upon Facebook’s privacy policy and conditions with one click but have you ever thought about what’s written on it? Well, to be honest even I don’t know about it. But I am aware that Facebook is clearly using your information to target you with advertisements as well as sell stuff, and they have rights to do so since it’s clearly mentioned on their privacy policy. To make you clear about this thing, in a simple word, when you see a product and you wish to buy, after some months Facebook will constantly keep reminding you about that stuff even though you have already bought it. Of course, most of the site does this but Facebook is the only site that constantly post such ads on your timeline, which might get irritating for some people and raise the question about the privacy of the user. I have just added a video (below) by popular YouTuber Casey Neistat, which pretty much sums up my whole point and let you know that how deep is Facebook’s Policy.
5. Facebook affects your psychology and makes you feel more negative about your life
We can say that Facebook’s news feed is like a constant flow of diarrhea, it fills up quickly about the people you may know or not. Yes, Facebook was made to reveal information about anyone and anything you do but the constant access to such stuff can harm your life as well as your good-being. A recent study done at Utah Valley University found that those who use Facebook on a daily basis aren’t the happiest one out there. The study revealed that “those who have used Facebook longer agreed more that others were happier, and agreed less that life is fair, as well as those spending more time on Facebook each week, agreed more that others were happier and had better lives.”
6. Who the hell are these people?
That awkward moment when you check the birthday list on Facebook and you realize you only care about 20 to 50 peoples out of your 1,000 friends. How do you know them? Are they some unknown person you met at the party or a restaurant, or a pissed up guy ready to take a revenge on you? Do you know their birthday? Most importantly, do you really care about them?, the answer is a big “NOPE”. If you are in a similar situation then it’s time to cleanup your friend’s list, otherwise, it will be quite late until you realize that those strangers maybe are pretty much entirely keeping an eye on you through your Facebook profile.
7. Facebook is keeping track of your status, even if you don’t post it
You maybe a genius or a matured guy but everybody at some stages in their life had or will try to post a foolish status but decide not to. You may have been happy that you didn’t post it and no one will know your foolish act, but Facebook may have the record of exactly what you typed alongside its time. Facebook released a statement that they were having a new type of data collection, which tracked about when people typed the content and removed it without posting it. Well, you maybe thinking that why the heck is Facebook spying on you (although most of the time they are) but according to them their mission is to study about why users “self-censor” themselves in their status, and to make you clear, a self-censored update is an entry which is entered into either your status box or comment box with more than five characters that were typed out but not published for the next 10 minutes.
Facebook is just another social site which comes with both advantages as well as disadvantages, but there are a lot of disadvantages of Facebook and most of them are quite critical than we think. If you are really serious about living a real life and deleting your Facebook account then you can do it right now by clicking here.
