Smartphone these days has certainly reached a pinnacle of innovations. Despite the fact, companies are still trying to come up with new things. And Vivo is one of the few on the list. Their newly showcased ‘Apex’ at MWC 2018 is a concept phone boasting some of the coolest features.
The first highlight is its truly bezel-less screen — it has near to no bezels, both on the top/bottom and sides. Phones like iPhone X certainly has such displays, however, it came with noticeable compromises, like an absence of fingerprint scanner. But that’s not the case with the Vivo Apex. The phone has an inbuilt fingerprint scanner embedded beneath the beautiful screen. Of course, the company’s own X20 had one but the Apex does it in a different way. The phone surprisingly utilizes its half of the screen as a fingerprint scanner.
Another cool feature on the phone is the placement of the front-facing camera. The company had to ditch the regular place of selfie camera for obvious reasons. However, they have dealt with it by implementing it inside the phone. In short, the 8MP front camera creeps up when you decide to use it.
Vivo also went for a different approach to replace the regular earpiece speaker. While Xiaomi dealt with it by placing a piezoelectric tech on its Mi Mix, Vivo has opted here to vibrate the whole phone itself as a speaker.
The Vivo Apex is a prototype and is far from ready to use. The Chinese company has also stated that the phone won’t hit the market in such form factor. However, it’s quite pleasing to see this come from a manufacturer like Vivo. And of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the features from the phone hit one or another device in near future — especially the on-screen fingerprint scanner.
