The Motorola Edge was the flagship offering from the company in a while, and the Edge Plus was also a compelling option in this regard. We knew Motorola would clinch on this success and release a follow-up, and today the firm has done it with the new Motorola Edge 20 series.
The two smartphones in last year’s lineup get replaced with three options this time — the first one is the Edge 20 Lite, the vanilla Edge 20, and finally the high-end Edge 20 Pro. All three devices bring 108MP main cameras with non-binning lenses; most probably the Samsung Isocell HM2, a 32MP selfie camera in the punch-hole cutout, 5G, OLED screens with high refresh rate, and 30W fast charging via the included charger.
Motorola Edge 20 Pro
Talking about the Edge 20 Pro (as seen above), as you would expect from a top-level device, the phone offers a Snapdragon 870 chipset instead of the high-end Snapdragon 888 chipset. This totally contradicts last year’s Edge Plus which had Snapdragon 865, Qualcomm’s top SoC at that time.
The Edge 20 Pro has a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, while at the back is a 108MP main camera with 16MP ultra-wide shooter that also works as a macro lens and an 8MP 5X periscope lens which can achieve up to 50X digital zoom. The phone powers on a 4,500mAh battery.
Edge 20
The vanilla model has pretty much similar features as the Pro variant, like the main and ultra-wide cameras, and a 144Hz OLED panel. But Motorola has gone for a slimmer profile here at 6.9mm, compromising on the phone’s battery at just 4,000mAh capacity.
Besides that, Motorola has also replaced the Snapdragon 870 chipset in favor of the Snapdragon 778G chipset which is a mid-range yet powerful chipset. On the other hand, the 5X periscope camera has been swapped with the 3X 8MP telephoto lens. The phone is in offers in 6GB/128GB or 8GB/128GB variant.
Edge 20 Lite
As the name suggests, the Edge 20 Lite is the cheapest out of three, opting for a Dimensity 720 budget chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of onboard storage.
There’s still that big 6.7-inch OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a bigger 5,000mAh battery (with 30W charging), and a triple-camera setup at the rear. Out of three cameras, the main one is a 108MP sensor aided by 8MP ultra-wide shooter with macro mode and a 2MP depth sensor.
Motorola Edge 20 series price and availability
In terms of price, the Edge 20 Pro will set users back a sweet £649.99 or €699.99 for the only 12GB/256GB model. The phone has three color options: Midnight Blue, Blue Vegan Leather, and Iridescent White.
For the standard Edge 20, you’ll have to pay £429.99 or €499.99, with color options like Frosted Grey, Frosted Emerald, and Frosted White. Whereas the Motorola Edge 20 Lite goes for a starting price of £299.99 or €349.99 and it’s available in Lagoon Green and Electric Graphite color options.
Motorola has said that all three phones will be available across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, while the Edge 20 Lite and Pro model will also be on sale in the Middle East.
