Huawei announces a new department that works on smart car solutions for vehicle manufacturers. As per Huawei’s internal document, this newly formed department will operate under the ICT Management Committee and end-to-end smart mobility solutions that include information and communication technology (ICT) equipment and applications to car manufacturers.
Huawei’s global telecommunication business has faced expatiation overtime and the company faced a ban too to make a trade with US-based companies. And, the establishment of a new department is a result of all these.
Founder and CEO of Huawei, Ren Zhengfei believes that the three major breakthroughs for the company in the future will be automobile networking, artificial intelligence, and edge computing. He also said that there should be more investments made in the field of smart car connections, computing, and autonomous driving.
Similarly, the Deputy Chairman and Rotating Chairman of Huawei, Xu Zhijun said, “Huawei will not make cars in the future, but will instead focus on ICT technology to help car manufacturers produce better cars.”
Wang Jun is appointed the president of the newly established business unit. Wang Jun previously worked in Huawei’s Japanese Carrier Business Unit.
As per the organizational structure, the new business unit will be treated as a first-level department alongside Huawei’s other business groups, which currently are Consumer, Enterprise, and Career Business Group. The two major business units include Cloud & AI Products, Services, and the new Smart Car Solution Business Unit.
Again, the company has already established several strategic partnerships with vehicle manufacturers across the globe, some of which are SAIC Motor, Audi, Volvo, BYD, etc. and are also active in the research and development of smart vehicle applications, 5G connections, and many more.
