Huawei has officially taken the wrap off the new Nova 5T amidst all the leaks and teasers. This “lite-flagship” device from the company comes with most of the features of the flagship phone but for half the price.
One of the major highlights of the device is nonother than the camera, which Huawei is mostly known for in recent days. The phone’s back houses a quad-camera setup that screams ‘great images’. A 48MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture is accompanied by 16MP ultra-wide sensor (1/3.1″) with f/2.2 aperture. The remaining two is a 2MP dedicated macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor for bokeh effects.
Measuring 6.26-inch in terms of display the Nova 5T has a punch hole at the top-left that also holds a 32MP selfie camera. It’s an LCD panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 and 84.2% screen-to-body ratio.
Another thing that it borrows from its flagship counterparts is the Kirin 980 SoC, seen on devices like the P30 Pro, which was lauded for its exceptional camera capabilities. The Huawei made silicon has an octa-core CPU with 2 high performing Cortex-A76 cores with a clock speed of 2.6GHz, another 2 Cortex-A76 at 1.92GHz; the remaining 4 are Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. Likewise, the phone has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, unfortunately without an option for expansion.

Taking a second look at the back, barring those quad-cameras the Nova 5T boasts a clean and glaring look, thanks to its color schemes and also the removal of the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Instead, Huawei has shifted the fingerprint scanner to the side which also doubles as a power button. The side-mounted fingerprint scanner not only preserves the device’s aesthetics but also has a practical use case.
Powering the phone is a 3,750mAh battery that supports 22.5W fast charging (50% in 24 min) through a Type-C port. The Huawei Nova 5T boots on EMUI 9.1 on top of Android 9 Pie out of the box.
