Huawei has announced the new Huawei Nova 8 lineup comprising Huawei Nova 8 5G and Huawei Nova 8 Pro 5G in China. Both smartphones power on a Kirin 985 5G chipset coupled with a similar memory configuration. Also, these ship in four different color variants — Black, Blue, Green, and White.
Let’s take a quick overview of both the handsets followed by their launch prices in China since we are yet to know about international availability.
Huawei Nova 8 5G
The Huawei Nova 8 5G flaunts a 90Hz 6.57-inch OLED display with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The screen supports a 90Hz refresh rate as well as 1B colors and HDR10.
The device runs on EMUI 11 on top of Android 10 without Google Play Services. The phone powers on an in-house 7nm based Kirin 985 5G chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB UFS internal storage. The storage, however, is non-expandable.
At the back lies a quad-camera setup that includes a 64MP wide, an 8MP ultrawide, a 2MP depth, and a 2MP macro sensor along with an LED flash and support for panorama and HDR.
As for the selfie unit, it comes with a 32MP wide sensor with HDR and support for 4K video recording.
The phone uses Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C 2.0 for connectivity. This one lacks a 3.5mm audio jack.
Powering the phone is a 3,800mAh cell with 66W fast charging that can go from 0 to 60% in 15 minutes and 0 to 100% in 35 minutes as advertised. It also supports 5W reverse charging.
Huawei Nova 8 5G starts at CNY 3,299 for 8GB/128GB and CNY 3,699 for 8GB/256GB memory config.
What about the Pro model?
The Pro model comes with a slightly bigger 6.72-inch display with 1236 x 2376 pixels resolution and a similar 19.5:9 aspect ratio, while it supports 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, and 1B colors.
It gets exactly the same OS and chipset, hence the same memory configuration as well.
As for optics, we are looking at a quad-camera setup at the back that comprises camera units with the same megapixel counts but different aperture, particularly the 64MP unit with f/1.8.
At the front lies a dual-camera setup that includes 16MP wide and 32MP ultrawide sensors.
Again, connectivity options remain identical except for the use of Bluetooth version 5.2.
The Nova 8 Pro 5G uses a slightly larger 4,000mAh cell with fast charging and reverse charging options as seen on the non-Pro variant.
As for the pricing, the Huawei Nova 8 Pro 5G starts at a price of CNY 3,999 for 8GB/128GB and CNY 4,399 for 8GB/256GB memory config.
Finally, both Nova 8 5G and Nova 8 Pro 5G are up for pre-orders in China with official sales kicking off as of 30 December 2020. We’re not sure if both phones will ever launch in Nepal.
