If you haven’t heard of LOCUS, then it’s the largest event or the tech fest held in Nepal annually. LOCUS 2018 is going to be a three-day event with the theme, ‘Smart city via Information and Technology’.
The event has a long history starting from 2003 till date and has been providing students with the opportunity to showcase their talent and knowledge in the form of projects and other ideas.
This annual event has become a platform for all the emerging as well as the hidden talents and is running with a motto, ‘Competition builds quality’.
The event runs in several dimensions which include skill oriented programs, hardware as well as software training and exhibition, seminars, gaming competitions and so on, with a view to connecting all the dimensions of technology and its derivatives.
LOCUS 2018 is going to be held from Magh 19th up to Magh 21st 2074. The event also covers several other pre-events, ideas and new innovations with a view to uplifting creativity and innovation in the future.
This year’s LOCUS will feature following events:
The word Dronacharya has been made by combining two words, i. e. Drone and Acharya, where Drone refers to a flying object and Acharya is simply an expert in something. Candidates compete with each other flying their drones through several obstacles to win the competition.
This event is going to be held on the 19th and the 21st of Magh 2074.
It’s the war of Robots. Competitors prepare their robots and play with each other. The one which can push another robot outside of the circle or arena during the war is declared a winner of the match. Robo Warz is going to happen on the 20th of Magh.
Crash course on Robotics
Crash course on Robotics is held nearly one month before the main event. This year it was held from Poush 16th to 24th of Poush 2074.
The motto of this crash course is to provide a foundation for the hardware and software requirements in order to build and operate a robotic system.
Hack A Week
It is a pre-event where different Developers and Programmers come at a place and try to hack for different problems together for a week. This year this event is going to be held from Magh 7 to Magh 14.
This event is for those who want to test and perform coding so as to create something new and to solve given problems. The event has been scheduled for 13th Magh 2074.
It provides a common platform for all the students as well as researchers where they can use their creativity and knowledge so as to develop their own applications or products. All they need to do is present their ideas and implement them to develop a product. They also need to explain the products they made.
Code Camp is being held on the 20th and 21st of Magh 2074.
Talk show with motivational and inspirational figures
There are talk shows as well as the motivational events which are held in the pre-event of LOCUS.
These shows help students as well as the tech enthusiast to learn and understand more about the technology and technological trends.
MATLAB programming and electric circuit simulation are the topics of concern going to be discussed in the four-day-long MATLAB Simulink workshop. Similarly, the event will be held on the 20th Magh 2074.
Energy hackathon by its name itself is the discussion on the topic of energy, energy usage, production and possibility in Nepal and all the issues related to it.
Students need to present themselves with an idea on the energy, possibilities, current issues and their best solution to them. Thus the best presentation with the best idea and solution wins the competition.
This hackathon is going to be held from 21st Magh 2074 at IOE, Pulchowk Campus, Lalitpur.
It’s another pre-event of LOCUS 2018 which features logical debates and talks on technology. This event is going to be presented by LOCUS 2018 and Debate Network Nepal, also known as DNN. The Debate will be held in Britain Parliamentary format and would start from 6th Magh to 8th Magh 2074.
Zerone Magazine and Scholar publish
Zerone magazine is published under LOCUS features all the tech news and trends in the whole event as well as the Globe.
The magazine features quality articles on technology, news regarding the latest technological practices across the globe and experts’ opinions on technology and advancements in Nepal.
Zerone Scholars is a students’ journal especially for the undergraduate students who have the major in Electronic, Computer and Electrical Engineering. The Zerone Scholars is supported by the IEEE Nepal.
Technical Quiz Competition for +2 students
LOCUS 2018 is also going to conduct Technical Quiz Competition for Higher Secondary level, also known as +2 in Nepal, and the A-Levels’ students. This Quiz competition is also the part of the pre-events in LOCUS 2018.
Winners get exciting prizes as well and the event will be held on 13th Magh 2074.
Photography Competition and Workshop
LOCUS 2018 has a three-day digital photography workshop starting from 7th Magh to 10th Magh 2074.
Similarly, there will be a photography competition where the students have to capture images as directed on the event itself upon participation.
Art Competition and Exhibition
On the 17th of Magh will be an art competition as a part of the LOCUS 2018 pre-event where the students compete with their best artwork. The art has to be made as directed on the event itself.
The best Art is shown on the three days main event of LOCUS 2018 in Pulchowk Campus, Lalitpur.
It’s the promotional event for LOCUS 2018 performed in several places such as shopping malls, Durbar Square area as well as other crowded places.
It’s yet another promotional event of LOCUS 2018 which is going to be held on 16th Magh 2074. It’s the Martyr’s day as well.
Thus, the event’s theme will be ‘Walk for Martyrs’.
Children in Technology
Children in Technology is one of the Social initiatives done by the students of IOE, Pulchowk Campus, with a view of providing training and skill oriented knowledge about Hardware and Software computing along with the latest technological trends to the students of various Schools, High Schools and Colleges.
It’s a competition which is going to be held as a part of pre-event in LOCUS 2018. This competition is mainly targeted for the students of first and the second year.
Students need to fabricate the circuit in the location directed by the organizers themselves. The best fabrication wins the competition which will be based on the criterion set by the organizers. The competition was held from 27th Poush to 29th Poush 2074.
It’s a part of LOCUS 2018 pre-events which was held from 30th Poush to 2nd Magh 2074. The workshop was organized with a view to providing knowledge about various designing software and tools including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
The workshop was held mainly to provide basic concept needed in designing.
GIT Workshop is the part of LOCUS 2018 pre-event. It was done with a view to providing basic and fundamental working principles and knowledge of GIT.
It was conducted from Poush 12, 2074 to Poush 14, 2074 as a two-day pre-event.
LOCUS has always been a centre of learning for all the students, especially in the field of technology, innovations and creativity. Information technology has made a significant progress and has made an impact in almost all the fields.
Thus, LOCUS 2018 is going to be held on the same theme to give a clear and transparent information on Information and Technology.
