It looks like Huawei has developed a knack for its Y-series smartphones. After the launch of Y6 Prime the company has quickly followed up with yet another budget-centric phone in Nepal. This time it’s the Y5 Prime 2018.
The launch possibly proves that the company is readily looking forward to bolstering its Y-series lineup mainly focused on people seeking budget alternatives.
Staying trendy yet compact, the Huawei Y5 Prime has 5.45-inch HD+ display. The 18:9 display has an LCD panel and a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixel. Internally, there’s a MediaTek MT6739 chipset with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. It’s quite weird to see a MediaTek chipset on a device from Huawei, considering that company mostly sticks with its own Kirin processor.
Regardless of the chipset, at the back is a 13MP camera with f/2.0 aperture with dual-LED dual-tone flash. Selfies are taken care by a 5MP front camera with LED flash either.
The front camera, though is not limited to taking selfies only. It also works as a facial scanner to help unlock the device. Interestingly enough, the facial unlocking does come with AI recognition feature that claims to detect a human face and map them with a pinpoint accuracy.
Out of the box, the phone boots on Android 8.1 Oreo on top of Huawei’s own EMUI 8.0. The custom skin from the Chinese company comes with some handy features like smart gestures and eye-comfort mode to disallow the blue-light emission.
