OPPO F5, which was launched a couple of weeks ago in the international market has officially arrived in Nepal as expected. OPPO’s new piece of hardware majorly focuses on selfies, and thanks to the addition of AI, it has become much more capable than its previous counterparts.
Keeping rest of the hardware aside(for a while), OPPO F5’s selfie camera — despite claiming to be just another selfie expert — is obviously a crowned jewel of the smartphone. The 20MP front camera with a 1/2.8-inch sensor and f/2.0 aperture cohesively works to produce wide and bright pictures. While the front camera is nothing sort of unfamiliarity(in terms of megapixels), OPPO’s ‘Beauty AI’ is a new addition to the companies lineup. The so-called beauty AI will certainly hide your imperfection through altering your face’s shape and texture through the help of artificial intelligence; though, it’s yet to be seen if it works wonder to produce images as exclaimed or not. Likewise, the front camera also allows users to capture selfies in portrait mode; mimicking iPhone’s similar ability to blur the background.
And as usual, the Chinese company has oddly opted for a lower 16MP sensor at the back with f/1.8 aperture and Phase Detection AutoFocus(PDAF). Unfortunately, the phone doesn’t feature OIS or EIS.
Rest assured, the handset basically comes with a 6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixel and 18:9 screen ratio. The curved display of the phone slightly gives you the vibes of the on-going bezel-less trend, whereas, underneath, there’s MediaTek Helio P23 octa-core chipset and Mali-G71 MP2 GPU.
MediaTek’s chipsets are still not considered as a household name when it comes to powering the device, so, there’s still to be seen if the handset does take a hit or not while performing intensive tasks like heavy gaming.
Talking about the design, the phone bears a minor resemblance to the iPhone 7 Plus at the back; plus a fingerprint scanner.
The phone comes in two variants; the first one with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while the latter being the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. Nonetheless, both variants will come with an option for expansion via microSD card. The whole phone boots on Android 7.1.1 Nougat on top of OPPO’s very own ColorOS 3.2, whilst there’s a 3,200mAh battery to juice up the phone.
What’s the Price in Nepal?
As for the pricing, the OPPO F5 can be purchased through various retailers across the nation for Rs. 33,990 for 4GB/32GB variant, likewise, the 6GB/64GB variant will go on sale for Rs. 44,990 in Nepal. For more information about discounts and offers please visit your nearest OPPO retail store.
Should you buy it?
OPPO’s smartphone lineup is full of selfie experts, and the F5 is just another one from the list. Instead of implementing a compelling internal hardware, it seems like the company has rather focused on building up their front camera and the new AI. The ‘Beauty AI’ is definitely a step up toward generalizing AIs in phones, however, as of now, it sounds nothing but just another gimmick to us.
On the contrary, the curved 18:9 display is definitely a welcome feature for us. The OPPO F5 is no doubt a good phone[and a great one if you are a selfie fanatic], however, if selfie isn’t your cup of tea — especially at this price range — then we recommend you to go for OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi Mi A1; priced nearly same(the Mi A1 is priced lower) but with better specs.
