Xiaomi seems more likely to launch mid-range smartphones with under-display fingerprint scanner technology. XDA-Developers reports that the company had three new devices for hardware testing and all of them featured FOD(Finger-on-Display) technology. Also, two of them are suspected to run on Android One.
We guess the devices to be Xiaomi Mi A3, Xiaomi Mi A3 Lite and a Chinese version of Xiaomi. Codenames that were used for the devices are ‘pyxis’, ‘bamboo_sprout’, and cosmos_sprout’. The suffix _sprout were seen in the devices that run on Android One while the third one lacks it so it could be a Xiaomi Mi 6X or Xiaomi Mi 7X successor.
About the fingerprint-on-display technology in Xiaomi smartphones, it possibly is an optical one. We might also see Redmi smartphones with optical under-display fingerprint scanner pretty soon. For now, flagships Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi 9 and the latest Black Shark 2 use the tech.
It’s not the only time we are seeing under-display fingerprint technology in mid-range smartphones as Vivo, Oppo, and Samsung have already done it.
