Xiaomi is pushing towards the tablet market in Nepal with its much-anticipated Pad 5 — its entry in this segment for the very first time in the country.
Although there’s a Pro model of the tablet, Xiaomi Nepal has unveiled the standard model, the Pad 5 that has Wi-Fi only. In terms of internals, the Pad 5 goes for a rather old but promising Snapdragon 860 chipset, which makes it one of the few powerful Android tablets in the market.
The tablet brings an 11-inch panel with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s a 10-bit panel with support for Dolby Vision and HDR10, claiming up to 500 nits of peak brightness with TrueTone technology for adapting colors based on ambient light.
- Display: 11 inches IPS LCD panel, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, Dolby Vision
- Resolution: 1600 x 2560 pixels, 16:10 ratio (~274 ppi density)
- OS: MIUI 12.5 for tablets, Android 11
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 (7nm)
- CPU: Octa-core (1 x 2.96GHz Kryo 485 Gold and 3 x 2.42GHz Kryo 485 Gold and 4 x 1.78 GHz Kryo 485 Silver)
- GPU: Adreno 640
- Memory: 6GB RAM, 128GB/256GB. UFS 3.1 storage
- Rear Camera: Single — 13MP, f/2.0
- Secondary Camera: Single — 8MPMP, f/2.0
- Sensor: Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass
- Battery: Li-Po 8,720mAh, non-removable, 33W fast charging
The rear camera placement somehow reminds us about the Mi 11 with its pill-shaped camera island. The same consists of just a single 13MP main camera, which is more than enough for a tablet and your day-to-day usage, albeit less superior than the Pro 5G model, which up the ante with a 50MP main sensor alongside a 5MP ultrawide sensor.
Regardless, it brings support for magnetic keyboard cover and stylus, similar to the iPad Pro 11 and Galaxy Tab S7. Of course, you’ll have to purchase it separately, though Xiaomi hasn’t revealed much about the pricing of its accessories.
The stylus is not something that you would see every day, especially from Xiaomi. But what it offers is practical enough for a day to day usage. The Xiaomi stylus has a weight of 12.2 grams with two buttons on its side, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It feeds from its own battery that can last 8 hours on a single charge. The magnetic keyboard, on the other hand, is something that’s commonly found on other tablets.
Powering the Xiaomi Pad 5 is an impressive 8,720mAh cell with equally amazing 33W fast-charging, which in itself is a huge boost for a tablet.
On the software part you still have the MIUI but with support for tablets — it has multi-screen support for over 300 apps. The Xiaomi Pad 5 also has four stereo speakers — two at the top and two at the bottom.
