Android has been on our phone for a while and it won’t be a problem for us to recall it as by far the most superior and used platform around the globe. Each year Google rolls out its new update alongside new hope of revamped and advanced system, and this year it’s no exception for us. With new features like keyboard themes, new emojis, launchers, VR support, and multitasking the new Android 7.0 Nougat update will hit most of the smartphones within coming months.
While the aforementioned features is a plus point for most of the smartphone running the previous version of Android, most of the people are still unknown about the phones that will be graced with the latest update, alongside the date. Although we’re still unknown about it, taking a look at the footstep from smartphone manufacturers it seems like this year won’t be an anomaly.
Let’s take a look at the list of smartphones that are receiving Android 7.0 Nougat update.
Google Nexus
Even though Nexus lineup has been ditched by Google, most of them will still receive the sweet Nougat update. Most importantly, the 7.0 Nougat is already available for wide range of the Nexus devices including the Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 9, and the Nexus Player. Whilst the OTA update has already been pushed out, you could simply head to Android’s website and flash the stock ROM, if in case you haven’t received it.
Android One
The Android One smartphones, which basically are targeted to developing countries are one of the few inexpensive devices to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update since the phone runs pure vanilla Android and the upgrades are taken care by Google. So, if you have got an Android One device then be sure to check the update as Google has already rolled it out.
Motorola(Lenovo)
Motorola has always been in front of the race to release the latest update of Android. Even though the company now works under Lenovo we’re keeping our hope alive that the phones from Motorola will still be the number one non-Nexus device to get the latest update. Here is the long list of the Moto phones to receive the update later this year.
• Droid Turbo 2
• Droid Maxx 2
• Moto Z
• Moto Z-Droid
• Moto Z Force Droid
• Moto Z Play
• Moto Z Play Droid
• Nexus 6
• Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen)
• Moto X Style
• Moto X Play
• Moto X-Force
• Moto G (4th Gen)
• Moto G Plus (4th Gen)
• Moto G Play (4th Gen)
HTC
The Taiwanese company has been going trough lot of troubles in the global market, however, that won’t stop them to push out the latest update. While the list isn’t exceptional to that of Motorola, HTC has a pretty impressive record of rolling the update. The company already stated that their phones will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat soon. Expected to arrive at the end of this year, few of the handpicked devices from HTC including its latest flagship HTC 10, One M9 and One A9 will be getting the update. Rest aside, just keep your finger crossed and hope that your phone will receive the update soon.
Samsung
The Korean giant is not a trustworthy brand when it comes to speedy Android updates, and this year we think the case will remain intact. Due to the Galaxy Note 7 incident, Samsung has stated that they are sweating out to push the latest update as quick as possible. However, it still seems like the company will still loose race against some of the noteworthy competitors mentioned above — hope this time they prove us wrong.
In case you’re wondering the flagship from this year — Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be the first one to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update(early 2017), quickly followed by the likes of Galaxy Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge+. Samsung is yet to announce anything about their remaining Galaxy lineups including the A-series and J-series.
LG
Another Korean smartphone manufacturer LG does not have a good record of providing timely updates to its users. Whilst the LG V20 was the first phone to be graced with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, there’s no hint about the remaining smartphones including the LG G5. Judging by its previous records, the LG G5 could receive the update at a later stage of this year, while the remaining smartphone including the LG G4 could receive it at early 2017.
Sony Xperia
Sony shares similar traits among Samsung and LG when it comes to timely Android updates. However, the company is quite popular for covering its wide range of products during the update. As rumored, the Xperia Z3 is touted to be the first smartphone from Sony to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, later being followed by other models including the Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia X, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia XA and Xperia X Performance, and finally the Xperia Z3+.
Huawei
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer doesn’t come to our mind when we look for latest and timely software updates. Huawei has pretty inferior record of providing latest software updates to its users. Looking back at the past records, some of the devices from the company including the new Mate 9, Honor 8, P9, and Mate 8 could receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update at the February 2017.
OnePlus
The OnePlus 2 got the Marshmallow update this year in June, which shows us that OnePlus is definitely not serious about updating their bare minimum lineup of smartphones. However, Pete Lau — founder and CEO of OnePlus, tweeted that they’re already working on the next big thing, which indirectly points the next Android 7.0 Nougat update. If everything goes according to the plan the company could update the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3 early next year.
Xiaomi
Despite capturing half of the Asian markets, Xiaomi has an abysmal record of providing timely Android updates. Often recalled as the Chinese Apple, the company rolled out the Marshmallow update for Mi 4, Mi 3, and Mi Note this year in April, which isn’t a good sign. However, considering the recent criticism, if the company tries to apply some good effort then they might be able to roll out the update within January 2017. Although the company hasn’t mentioned anything about their lineup receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update, as of now, the Mi 5 is guaranteed to get the update accompanied by newer models including the Mi Note 2 and the Mi Mix.
We might also see other models on the list — specifically the Redmi 4, Redmi 4 Prime, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 3, Mi 4C, Redmi 2 Prime, Mi 4S, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3A, Mi Note or Note Pro, Mi Max, Mi 4i, and Mi Pad 2.
